You are now a complete 'newstuff' geek, Ben: you've picked Cocoa/Apple/whatever because it is shiny. Geek philosophy, or ANY KNOWLEDGE of the actual language, goes straight out of the window.

Haha, yes. I don't think anyone reads mine... shame. Oh, right. I can see why you want to get it then, sort of. And yes, I do think your blog is interesting! Is it okay if I 'follow' you on Twitter? :-).

@Isabell Wow! Nice to know someone other than sean reads my blog. As to the iPhone, I don't actually have a phone, and I do write a bit of objective C so it would be fun to see if I could write any progams for it. You think my blog is interesting? =D. You must be the first one =P

The new iPhone looks quite good, but then I saw the price. And besides, I have a phone already... maybe one day, but not yet, I don't have enough money, what with all the stuff I have to buy for school. Your blog is interesting, by the way. I'm a friend of Sean's, just for future reference. Sorry for this random comment, I know I don't know you, but meh. :-).

No, not a bit. Of course I knew about the contract. I'm more far-sighted than most people.

I tried to get the Iphone a bit ago - until i found out that the contract that it comes with costs more than the phone per year. For 18 months it came to around £300. And worst of all you cant change your network from 02!!!
I hope your woo-ness has worn off now

I don't choose my OS based on how it looks. I just thought I'd try Gnome for a change, and liked the way it looks. By changing the desktop background and window decoration, it looks even better. But it's perfectly nice without it. I daresay I would have been happy with KDE or XFCE - as I am (XFCE is very nice). As for drivers, yeah it's a pain. But luckily it's only one, and it should cope with any update short of a kernel update because of how you install it. And if it doesn't, now that I have the file I can reinstall it in ten seconds flat anyway.

So fickle Ben, choosing your desktop environment based on what the theme . . .

The problem with having to fiddle with drivers like this, while great, is that you end up having problems when upgrading as we both did. In order to be safe you basically have to do everything via the package manager - which is the whole point of a package manager anyway. Ah well.

I really don't see why you don't just save up for longer and build from scratch. What of the upgraded form won't be new, anyway?
